Dave Meltzer reported on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE plans to have Brock Lesnar defend the Universal Championship in July and August of this year. Meltzer said that two possible opponents for those pay-per-view events will be Braun Strowman and Finn Balor.
As seen on Sunday’s WWE Payback Pre-show, Finn teased that he would eventually be going after the Universal Championship. This was done to plant the seeds for the eventual match later this year (SummerSlam) if the company does in fact to go that direction. It all boils down to what Vince McMahon wants at the end of the day and he could very much change his mind.
In regards to when Strowman receiving a shot at the championship, WWE will probably have an added stipulation between Roman Reigns and Strowman at an upcoming match with the winner moving on to face Brock at the July pay-per-view, Great Balls of Fire.
