As seen on SmackDown Live this week, Jinder Mahal won a six-pack challenge to receive a WWE Title match against Randy Orton at next month’s WWE Backlash event. It was previously reported that WWE has decided to push Mahal as a top WWE Superstar on the SmackDown Live brand as part as their push in the India market.
Dave Meltzer mentioned on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio that the original plans for the WWE Title would see Randy Orton defending against Baron Corbin. Those plans were obviously pushed back for now. Meltzer claims that the push in the new India market is new and WWE changed their plans to Mahal challenging Orton recently.
