Diamond Dallas Page
The first inductee: Diamond Dallas Page. A video package runs showing Paul “Triple H” Levesque calling DDP to make the announcement that they were inducting him into the Hall of Fame. Page got very emotional getting the news. The rest of the package focuses on DDP’s career in WCW, getting started in the industry at an older age, his hard-work, and life after wrestling.

Eric Bischoff is out to induct DDP. Bischoff receives a big “welcome back” chant. Biscoff says there was someone else up here inducting DDP, he wishes he was sitting in the audience watching. He wishes it were Dusty Rhodes and he chokes up saying so. Regardless, he says he is happy to be a distant second and be here tonight.
He remembers when he first met DDP, when he was a manager. He says Page was criticised for his work, particularly for being literally bigger than the team he managed. Bischoff jokes that it would be like Paul Heyman being taller and heavier than Brock Lesnar. DDP and Bischoff got into a barfight, so Eric says he wasn’t really sad when DDP left to manage the Freebirds in WCW in 1991. Eric says that Page went on to have incredible success in WCW, while he was in desperate need of a job.
Eventually he received an audition to be a commentator with WCW and the colour commentator he had to audition with was none other than DDP. He figured he was screwed because last time he saw Page they had had the bar fight, but Page didn’t let that get in the way. He says Page helped him immensely, reading lines and letting him know what WCW were looking for. They became friends following him being hired.
Bischoff says it was the same motivation and passion that led to Page going to the WCW Power Plant and training to become a wrestler. He says Page knew he needed to become more valuable, and in spite of everyone telling him he was too old, he did it. Bischoff calls Page relentless, saying he did everything he set his mind on. With names like Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, Bill Goldberg and more, DDP had a heck of an in-ring career. Bischoff says he is so very proud to be here because of Page’s heart; something Page is happy to share with everyone around him and make their lives better. Bischoff tells some stories about the people Page has helped through his Yoga. And with that, Eric Bischoff introduces us to the first inductee into the 2017 Hall Of Fame: Diamond Dallas Page!

Diamond comes out, accompanied by his daughters, who he kisses goodbye. WrestleMania 6, he was driving Rhythm and Blues to the ring in a pink Cadillac convertible, and he didn’t get the gig: the car did. He says that it’s truly humbling to be going into the Hall Of Fame all these years later. The fans chant “you deserve it!”.
Page says he used to be called an anomaly: something that’s never supposed to happen. Page says tonight is bitter sweet because Dusty Rhodes is not here to share this moment with him. He talks about meeting Dusty for the first time and wanting to make him the Jesse Ventura of the 90’s – to which he said he didn’t know a wrist-lock from a wrist-watch. Page talks about wrestling for the first time at 35 years old and everyone calling him crazy. He brings up Michael Hayes falling down laughing at the thought of Page starting at an older age.
Page talks about training with Jody Hamilton and when he took his first bump, “Man, this fake stuff hurts like hell.” Page thanks Terry Taylor for working with him in the Power Plant, on the road and in life. He thanks Dusty Rhodes’ wife Michelle, saying without her he wouldn’t be here. Page then hanks Eric Bischoff as well. He wants to thank his other mentor: Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Page talks about people laughing at him for taping every match and Roberts would watch every match with him, and referred to some as “brutal.” Page thanks John Laurinaitis for giving him his finisher, and William Regal for helping perfect the Diamond Cutter.

Page credits Ron Reis for coming up with the Diamond Cutter pose. Page talks about having his first competitive match with Sting. He tells a story about Michael Hayes never being happier to “eat crow” on his in-ring ability after seeing a match he had with Sting. Page tells a story about Jake Roberts calling him in 1997 and congratulated him for reinventing the DDT. Page thanks Kevin Nash and Scott Hall and getting to blow the roof off the building taking out the nWo in front of a huge audience.
DDP tells a story about Randy Savage and giving him a call over Thanksgiving thanking him for letting him beat him. Page says at TV that Monday, Savage pulled him in a room and gave him a big hug for doing something like that. He also wants to thank Hulk Hogan. Page says Hogan told him if he keeps up what he is doing that he has the ability to do big business with him. He brings up working with Karl Malone, Dennis Rodman and Hogan to create the highest grossing WCW PPV of all time. Page thanks his ex-wife Kimberly. He thanks his wife Brenda bringing up that she is a breast cancer survivor. Page calls her his own personal superhero.
He runs down a long list of names he is thanking finishing with Chris Jericho. Page thanks all of the people that have worked with him or tried DDP Yoga worldwide. He thanks Goldberg for a “hell of a match.” Page closes thanking his mother. He has one last story about Dusty Rhodes. Page said Dusty would let him vent except for one night where he took it too far. He said Dusty raked his eyes when Page said he would never be the world champion or anyone near the level Dusty reached. Page said Dusty questioned what he was even doing in the business if he didn’t believe. He talks about writing down on a piece of paper that he would be world champion in five years. 4 years, 4 months later, he became Champion. Page says if you have a passion, own it and ink it. He talks about working with Sting, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair and finally reaching the goal of becoming world champion. Page closes his speech thanking everyone for letting him live out his dream.
BANG! Congratulations to the FIRST inductee of the #WWEHOF Class of 2017, @RealDDP! @WWENetwork pic.twitter.com/E4cgMGmPGu
