The dawn of the new era in WWE has captivated audiences from the very beginning, with Cody Rhodes emerging as the cornerstone. With WrestleMania’s venue always being a topic of discussion, it appears the Mayor of London has pledged to bring WrestleMania to The United Kingdom.
While speaking to MyLondon, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has made a bold pledge to establish a taskforce with the goal of attracting more North American sports events to the capital, including the first-ever international WrestleMania.
This initiative is part of a broader campaign to elevate London’s status as the “sporting capital of the world.” In a list of commitments ahead of the upcoming London mayoral election, Khan outlined his vision for the city, emphasizing its rich history of hosting significant sporting events.
Alongside promises to support grassroots sports and bring back the Olympics and NBA games to London, Khan is determined to campaign for WrestleMania to take place in the United Kingdom. He highlighted London’s legacy of memorable sporting moments, citing events like the Olympics, the Lionesses’ victory at Wembley during the Euros, the Ashes at Lord’s and The Oval, and much more. If re-elected on May 2, Khan is intent on advancing London’s reputation and bringing the biggest global events to the city.
“London is a world leader in major sports events and has been at the heart of some of the most memorable sporting moments of the last few decades. From the Olympics, to the Lionesses winning the Euros at Wembley, to the Ashes at Lord’s and The Oval, London is where it’s at. If I’m re-elected on 2 May, I’m determined to go even further and fully cement London’s reputation as the undisputed sports capital of the world. I believe that London has the potential to host the first international WrestleMania. In the meantime, my message to anyone travelling to the Paris Olympics this summer is to include a visit to London in your itinerary, to enjoy all that our city has to offer.”
However, Khan’s pledge comes not long after WWE President Nick Khan announced that WWE plans to keep its five largest premium live events, including WrestleMania, in North America for the foreseeable future. This could present a challenge to Khan’s campaign for hosting the event in London. Despite this, WWE has indicated that other pay-per-views could be held internationally, which leaves the door open for future negotiations.
Even Cody Rhodes advocated for The United Kingdom to host WrestleMania in the future. We will have to wait and see whether fans will ever get to see WrestleMania take place in The United Kingdom somewhere down the line.
