Cody Rhodes had a rocker strapped to his back after returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38. Fast forward a year, he had a main event match at WrestleMania 39 against Roman Reigns. While he didn’t win the match, Cody Rhodes’ star power is undeniable now. Now it appears an ex-WWE Superstar revealed Dusty Rhodes’ actual opinion of his son Cody Rhodes.

Cody Rhodes and Dusty Rhodes shared a close and cherished bond that extended beyond the confines of the wrestling world. As not only Cody’s father, but also his mentor, friend, and role model.

As fans know by now, Dusty played an integral role in shaping Cody’s career in the industry. Even after Dusty Rhodes’ passing in 2015, Cody Rhodes has continued to honor his father’s memory.

Shawn Spears started his WWE career in Ohio Vally Wrestling back in 2006. Around that time, Spears teamed up with Cody Rhodes and even became two-time OVW Southern Tag Team Champions.

While speaking about this period of time on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Shawn Spears revealed that Dusty Rhodes told him that Cody Rhodes was destined to be a star.

“I remember, we were in OVW and we were a tag team. And Dusty, his dad, came down and he was all ‘Hey baby, we’re going to put you guys together. Young, good-looking guys. You got a little bit of experience.

It was a really smart idea, but Dusty said ‘Nice babyface tag-team, we’ll give you a bit of a run. But I need you to know, Cody is destined to be a star.’He told me that way back when. I don’t think Cody was in a year. But he [Dusty] knew it.”

Rhodes would make his WWE television debut on July 2 2007 and eventually got paired up with Hardcore Holly before turning heel and joining Randy Orton’s faction, The Legacy. It is certain his father would be proud to see just how far Cody Rhodes has come and that is all that matters.

What’s your take on what Shawn Spears said? Do you think Cody Rhodes will eventually become a World Champion in WWE? Sound off in the comments!
