For the fifth consecutive year Summerslam will emanate from the City of Angels, Los Angeles, California. I believe that Summerslam is WWE’s second biggest PPV of the year, obviously behind Wrestlemania. And it’s only fitting that this year’s card is beyond stacked. There are so many stories heading into Sunday it’s almost hard to keep track of what’s going on. So without further ado I now offer my picks for the biggest party of the summer.

Pre-Show Kickoff
United States Championship Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Dean Ambrose(c)

This is one of the many matches that I am looking forward to. RVD has looked better than ever since returning, and the US title is one he has never held in his career. On the other side of the ring is Dean Ambrose who has been a very good US champion. This will be the first time Ambrose has defended his title in a little while. Although this match has been reduced to the pre-show, I can tell you for a fact that it won’t disappoint. These two will set the tone for the night and it should be a great way to start the show. I predict a good back and forth match with the rest of The Shield getting involved that could lead to a match later on with The Big Show and Mark Henry.

Natalya vs. Brie Bella

This will most likely be my piss break, and it’s a shame because Nattie deserves so much better. This match probably won’t be much and will probably last less than five minutes. Nattie could use a win and I predict that she will indeed get it, by way of the sharpshooter.

Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow

This feud has been great thus far as it’s a fresh one, not one of those recycled feuds that we are accustomed to. I also have a feeling that it will continue after Sunday. Cody Rhodes seems to finally be getting the push he deserves. While I still think his mustache needs to go, there’s no denying he seems to be coming into his own as a babyface. I like how he hasn’t pandered to the crowd or anything like that since turning. Cody just needs to be Cody. As for Damien Sandow, he could really use a big win here as he’s a rough month since winning his Money In The Bank contract. A victory for the intellectual savior would help him get back on track and look like a legitimate threat to the World Heavyweight Championship. Even though the briefcase should’ve been on the line, I still see these two putting on a good showing. I pick Sandow to pick up the victory via pinfall.

Dolph Ziggler & Kaitlyn vs. Big E Langston & AJ Lee

It bothers me a little bit that no more than 5 months ago Dolph Ziggler was the World Heavyweight Champion, and now he’s in a mixed tag team match at Summerslam. But hey at least this match has meaning. Dolph and Big E will finally get to settle their differences and Kaitlyn will have the chance to put a hurting on the divas champion. Dolph has developed into a quality face and if you ask me, he and Kaitlyn would make a nice couple. I’ll be pulling for Dolph & Kaitlyn but I’ll be pulling for AJ too. I don’t know what it is but I just can’t get enough of this chick. This should be an alright mixed tag team match with Big E & Dolph doing most of the work. I predict Dolph to hit Big E with the zig zag to secure the win for he and Kaitlyn.

Ring of Fire Match
Kane vs. Bray Wyatt

It’s only fitting that Bray Wyatt’s first match in WWE is a ring of fire match with the equally as psychotic Kane. This feud has had a nice little buildup. Each man has cut very good promos but Bray Wyatt is just on another level. His mic work is superb and I’ve heard he’s not too shabby in the ring as well. The ring will be on fire for the whole match and I’m pretty sure it’s the same thing as an inferno match, just a different name now. With news of Kane reprising his role in See No Evil 2 this fall, I pick Bray Wyatt to win the match and set Kane ablaze.

World Heavyweight Championship Match
Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio(c)

Captain Charisma has been on one of the best rolls of his career, and what a better way to keep it going than by winning the World Heavyweight Championship for a third time. The video package they showed of him this past Monday on Raw got me wondering if he’s planning on calling it quits soon. I really hope he isn’t but if he is, then Vince needs to put the strap on him. Alberto Del Rio has become increasingly boring to watch as World Heavyweight Champion. Nonetheless this contest should be very, very good borderline great. My pick may be a bit bold but screw it, I’m picking Ricardo Rodriguez to return and cost Del Rio the title. Ladies and gentlemen, your winner and new World Heavyweight Champion, Christian!!

Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk

The buildup to this epic showdown has been nothing short of awesome. Paul Heyman turning on CM Punk last month was perfectly executed and what transpired in the weeks after has led to this Sunday. We have The Best vs. The Beast. Punk has taken some beatings from Brock Lesnar recently but this past Monday on Raw Punk made a statement. Decimating the beast incarnate with a camera, Punk proved he will not back down from a fight. Heyman will almost certainly get involved in the match but hopefully it doesn’t determine the outcome. I’m anxious to see how these two work together inside the squared circle. I’m predicting this to be a brutal match with these two beating the holy hell out of each other. In the end I pick Punk to hit big GTS for the win. On Sunday, the best will slay the beast.

WWE Championship Match
Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena(c) w/Triple H as the Special Guest Referee

The 26th annual Summerslam will be headlined by one of the most anticipated main events in recent memory. WWE Champion John Cena will defend his title against the hottest thing going in WWE today, Daniel Bryan. Cena hand picked Bryan weeks ago to be his challenger for Summerslam. D-Bry has overcome obstacle after obstacle and come Sunday he’ll face his “toughest” one yet in SuperCena. While it’s clear Vinnie Mac doesn’t want D-Bry as champion, (or Cena for that matter) everyone else does. The promo D-Bry cut on Raw this past Monday where he called Cena a parody of wrestling was one of the greatest things I’ve ever heard. In my eyes truer words have never been spoken. Two years ago it was the summer of Punk, this year it’s the summer of the beard. You’ve got to believe that the Staples Center is going to be 100% behind Daniel Bryan. I’m sure Cena will have his supporters as always but Sunday is Daniel Bryan’s night damnit!! With The Game donning the stripes for this epic encounter, I don’t see a screwjob happening. I think this will be the match of the night and I predict Daniel Bryan will make Cena tap out to the Yes Lock, and become the new WWE Champion. I also pick Randy Orton to cash in his MITB contract and make his long awaited heel turn. Either way on Sunday I am guaranteeing a new WWE Champion.

So there you have it folks, those are my picks for Summerslam. Sunday Night in LA is sure to be one for the history books. Will we see two new world champions? Will the best conquer the beast? Those are just some of the stories that will come to ahead in less than 48 hours at the Staples Center. My last prediction is that I think this year’s Summerslam will be a tough act to follow.
