AEW has been part of the professional wrestling world for well over five years now and throughout its existence, there have been times where the company has taken shots at WWE for one reason or the other. In that regard, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis has revealed why WWE doesn’t mention AEW on television.

AEW President Tony Khan made headlines when he stated that there is real war between WWE and AEW, but many people do not think there is any war between the companies whatsoever.

While speaking to Gorilla Position, Nick Aldis was asked about AJ Styles’ promo on Cody Rhodes where he mentioned all the promotions Rhodes was part of, including ROH and NJPW but Styles didn’t directly mention AEW.

Nick Aldis expressed his perspective on the situation, emphasizing that he is not involved in high-level conversations. He believes there is no nefarious intent behind the actions, but rather a response to AEW’s clear attempts to position themselves against WWE. Aldis finds the idea of a “war” between the companies to be unnecessary and somewhat silly.

“I don’t know, and again, I’m certainly not involved in the conversation at that level. But I don’t think it’s necessary, and I don’t think it’s anything particularly nefarious. I think it’s more just a thing of, well, hey look, they’ve made it very clear that they’re coming at WWE on a number of occasions. I personally think the whole ‘war’ thing is just silly. I think it’s silly on their part.

Nick Aldis compared the situation to geopolitics, suggesting that if one party declares hostility, the other is not likely to mention them casually. He noted that AEW has shown hostility towards WWE at times, and from WWE’s standpoint, it’s a matter of not wanting to provoke further conflict. Aldis implied that WWE’s approach is to avoid unnecessary escalation rather than actively seeking confrontation.

If you liken it to geopolitics, for example, if someone’s declared war on you, you’re not going to just throw their name around willy-nilly. They’ve been hostile at times, and from the company’s point of view, it’s just kind of like, well, hey, we don’t want to poke the bear. We’re not looking for that.”

WWE and AEW will remain two of the top pro wrestling promotions in the world but it is very unlikely WWE will mention Tony Khan’s company anytime soon considering all the hostility between the two promotions.
