Ringside News reported that Cena would be returning to television. This was refuted by some other outlets, but it turned out to be true. However, it doesn’t mean he’ll be back by the Royal Rumble.
Another interesting fact is that Cena said that he would be in Baltimore on December 28th, but he is also advertised to be at RAW next week which is filmed in Detroit on the same night. WWE is also advertising Cena for the Live Event in Baltimore as of this writing.
Bryan Alvarez discussed this during Wrestling Observer Live where he broke down the current situation with John Cena and WWE.
“This one’s interesting, so John Cena did an interview about two weeks or so and he said, ‘I’m coming back only for house shows. I’m not wrestling any TV dates. Then Vince McMahon shows up on TV and says, ‘Oh, John Cena, he’s coming back to RAW and SmackDown!’ So everybody thought he’s returning. Well, it looks like he’s returning for a RAW and a SmackDown. Then he’s gonna go and make movies again.”
It looks like John Cena’s television return won’t be as big of a deal as some might have liked. At least he’ll be coming back to work a couple television shows before making another movie.
