Raw ended this week with a big main event as Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler defended their Raw Tag Team Titles against Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. With Roman Reigns announcing he was leaving WWE due to leukemia earlier in the night, this seemed like the perfect chance to make a title change happen.
The crowd was very much into The Shield as they battled Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler. There were a couple near falls and close calls — then Braun Strowman’s music hit to cause a distraction.
Strowman’s entrance into the situation didn’t cause the end of the match, but Braun did take out Drew McIntyre as the two fought into the crowd.
Finally, Rollins nailed The Stomp and won the match as Michael Cole announced they did it for their brother Roman Reigns. So Raw ended with Rollins and Ambrose hugging as new Raw Tag Team Champions even though it started in a very sad way with Reigns announcing he was leaving.
Then before things had a chance to end Dean Ambrose nailed a Dirty Deeds on his partner and new co-champion before laying into him with a fury of shots. He screamed at Rollins as he pounded away at him and said: “say it again!” Then he tossed Rollins to the ground outside leaving the fans wondering what was going on.
The beatdown continued as Ambrose kicked Seth into the timekeeper’s area and left him laying before tossing the Raw Tag Team Titles at him. Then Ambrose took the mat away from ringside exposing the concrete floor and hit a Dirty Deeds on Rollins straight on the concrete floor as he yelled: “You asked for this!”
It was a brutal way to end an emotional night, that’s for sure. Before leaving, Ambrose took off his Shield sleeveless shirt and walked away through the crowd while chants of “assh*le” echoed through the Providence arena.
