WWE made headlines around the world as they unveiled the WWE NXT UK brand recently. With the first tapings scheduled to begin towards the end of this month at Cambridge, many fans have been wondering what the contract situations are with the competitors.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, wrestlers signed to the brand will all have one-year deals. However, WWE has the option to cancel contracts at the four and eight-month marks if the company does not want to continue working with the wrestler.
The majority of the deals are worth £24,000 pounds. This is equivalent to $31,600 American dollars. This is up from the $20,000 previous competitors had. The increase may have been due to their competition- ITV.
El Ligero, Zack Gibson, Ashton Smith, Dave Mastiff, Kenny Williams and Joe Coffey were all reportedly in talks with ITV. However, the increase in money offered by WWE helped the Superstars in deciding to go with WWE instead.
The women weren’t originally signed because ITV didn’t originally intend to feature women in their programming and the value of women in WWE wasn’t as high as it is today. This crop of female talent was reportedly signed so they can help build the brand, work the next Mae Young Classic and stay with WWE as opposed to ITV if they add women to their product.
WWE has yet to confirm exactly where and when NXT UK will appear. It will reportedly be televised either purely for the UK audience or on the WWE Network. Both are possible.
